If there's one thing that Ellen DeGeneres regrets, it would be her short gig on "American Idol". The comedienne was tapped to replace Paula Abdul as a judge for the ninth season, but she left the show after only one season, saying in a statement that the series "didn't feel like the right fit for me."
Speaking with Howard Stern during an interview for his SiriusXM show on Tuesday, September 8, the host of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" admitted she made a mistake by agreeing to be on "Idol". "That's one of the worst decisions I've made," she said.
DeGeneres confessed that she did it in the first place because she's a fan of the show, before she realized that she didn't suit the job. "As a fan of the shows, it doesn't matter that I sing or I know anything about pitch or anything, I'm like everybody else at home. It's 'American Idol'. So I thought I'm gonna represent those people at home that have opinions... but then I just thought, like Howard says, I can't break this person's heart. Let somebody else do that," she explained.
"American Idol" will return for a 15th and final season in 2016, with Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. returning as judges.
