Johnny Depp May Replace Hugh Jackman in 'Collateral Beauty'

The 'Mortdecai' actor is set to star in 'Collateral Beauty' after Jackman is forced to leave the project due to scheduling issue.

AceShowbiz - Back in May, Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara were set to team up in indie drama "Collateral Beauty". Latest news from Deadline, however, says that Jackman is forced to drop out the project and now the producers of the film eye Johnny Depp as his replacement.

Jackman has to quit the project over scheduling issue because he's already attached to "The Wolverine 3". Although the producers have not closed the deal with Depp, they definitely pursue him and the project is "one of the more competitive ones in the marketplace right now."

Written by Allan Loeb ("Rock of Ages"), who is reportedly paid $2.25 million for the script, "Collateral Beauty" centers on a New York advertising executive who is thrown into depression after experiencing some kind of terrible loss. His colleagues come up with an unusual plan to pull him out of his funk. They succeed, but then they are faced with some unexpected consequences.

Depp was last seen in "Mortdecai" and "Transcendence". He will appear next in "Yoga Hosers", "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" and "Through the Looking Glass".

To be directed by "Me & Earl & the Dying Girl" helmer Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, "Collateral Beauty" is also set to star Jason Segal. There is no official release date as of now, but the movie is expected to open in U.S. theaters in 2016. Michael Sugar and Bard Dorros are producing with Loeb while PalmStar CEO Kevin Frakes, Anthony Bregman and Steven Pearl will serve as executive producers.
