Comic-Con: 'Sherlock' Is Back Home in First Footage of Christmas Special
TV

The special that takes Sherlock Holmes and John Watson back to the Victorian era will hit the big screen when it's released next year.

After teased in a new photo, "Sherlock" Christmas special has been previewed in a first-look promo. The video opens with Sherlock Holmes and John Watson returning to 221B Baker Street apparently after a long travel.

Mrs. Hudson greets them, "I do wish you'd let me know when you were planning to come home." Sherlock responds, "I hardly knew myself, Mrs. Hudson," noting that "dismembered country squires are notoriously difficult to schedule."

The special sends the favorite characters back to the Victorian era. The bigger news, however, is that the special will not only debut on the small screen but also the big screen when it's released "in the next year, we hope," so executive producer Steven Moffat announced while debuting the teaser during the show's Comic-Con panel.

Benedict Cumberbatch couldn't attend the panel, but he appeared in a taped video showing him having a phone conversation with Andrew Scott, whose character Moriarty was killed off in the season 2 finale. Scott additionally teased his "top secret" role in upcoming James Bond film "Spectre".

While the video hinted at Scott's possible return to season 4, Moffat said he hadn't begun writing season 4. He, however, teased that it would "sucker-punch you into emotional devastation."
