After the creepy teaser went viral, Netflix releases a statement to say, 'This was not released from Netflix and not anything official.'

AceShowbiz - On Sunday, July 5, an alleged teaser for small-screen adaptation of Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" made its way out via YouTube. The creepy teaser features bizarre scenes showing a messy room and a shadow of someone who looks like Olaf. The video was uploaded by a YouTube user named Eleanora Poe, who is the editor-in-chief of The Daily Punctilio, the fake newspaper in Snicket's book series.

However, after the video gained a lot of buzz, Netflix has confirmed that the video is not official. "This was not released from Netflix and not anything official," a representative for the streaming service says in a statement.

Netflix announced last November that it picked up the rights to produce a series based on the 13 best-selling novels by Daniel Handler. The company will be producing the series in association with Paramount Television, while Handler serves as an executive producer.

"A Series of Unfortunate Events" revolves around three orphaned kids, Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire, who face trials and tribulations at the hands of the evil Count Olaf, a distant uncle, as they try to uncover the secret of their parents' death. No cast or release date is announced for the project just yet.
