AceShowbiz - Caitlyn Jenner celebrated her first Independece Day on Saturday, July 4. The former Olympian took to Instagram that day to wish her followers a happy holiday and share a special powerful message.
"Happy 4th of July! Proud to be an American ... where at least I am free to be me," Caitlyn wrote on America's special day. She accompanied the poignant message with a framed giant flag of the U.S.
Caitlyn first opened up about her gender transformation two months ago during an interview with Diane Sawyer. "Yes, for all intents and purposes I am a woman," she declared during the revealing interview.
"People look at me differently," she continued. "They see you as this 'macho male,' but my heart and my soul and everything I do in life, it is part of me, that female side is part of me. It's who I am. I was not genetically born that way."
The 65-year-old reality star finally debuted her new identity on the cover of Vanity Fair last month. Shortly afterwards, she wrote on Twitter, "I'm so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can't wait for you to get to know her/me."
Caitlyn will make her first official public appearance since the transformation on July 15 at the ESPY Awards. She will receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ceremony.
