Movie

The two 'Avengers' actors apologize for calling Scarlet Johansson's Black Widow a 'slut' and 'whore.'

Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner apologized for their comments on Scarlett Johansson's character Black widow during a promotional interview with Digital Spy. Talking about romance in the film "Avengers: Age of Ultron" involving each of their characters, Evans and Renner called Black Widow a "slut" and "whore."

Responding to the actors' comment which had brought plenty of criticisms from fans, Evans' representative Molly Kawachi sent an email to USA TODAY, "Yesterday we were asked about the rumors that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize."

Susan Patricola, Renner's rep, also released a statement which read, "I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour."

Previously in the interview with Digital Spy, Renner incidentally shamed Black Widow who was romantically linked to both Hawkeye (Renner) and Captain America (Evans) but in the upcoming "Avengers" movie she takes a romantic turn with the Hulk. Renner said, "She's a slut." Hearing his partner's comment, Evans laughed loudly and responded, "I was gonna say something along that line. She's a complete whore."
