Gina Rodriguez Joins Ben Lewin's Military Romance 'Purple Hearts'

The movie tells a love story between an aspiring musician and a soldier who wed under false pretenses, but eventually find true love.

AceShowbiz - Gina Rodriguez will star in upcoming military romance "Purple Hearts" directed by Ben Lewin. Alloy Entertainment announced the news on Thursday, April 16. Gina responded to the announcement on Twitter, writing, "Feeling like someone gave me wings this morning..."

The movie will be produced by Alloy Features' Elyssa Dutton and Leslie Morgenstein, and Gidden Media's Amy Baer. Leslie said in a statement, "We're extremely passionate about this story, and are confident we have the perfect team in place to bring it to life as a movie."

With a script from Kyle Jarrow, the story centers on an aspiring musician, played by Gina, and a soldier who marry under false pretenses, but eventually find true love. It's still unknown who will play the soldier.

Gina won a Golden Globe back in January for best actress in a comedy and musical for "Jane the Virgin". Her big screen credits included "Filly Brown", "Enter the Dangerous Mind" and "Sleeping with the Fishes".

She will next be seen in "Deepwater Horizon" with Mark Wahlberg and in "Sticky Notes" with Ray Liotta.
