Benedict Cumberbatch and his fiancee Sophie Hunter have confirmed that they are expecting their first child together. Benedict's publicist said in a statement on Wednesday, January 7, "I am delighted to confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are expecting their first child. They are both over the moon."

Benedict first sparked pregnancy rumors after Sophie was spotted sporting what appeared to be a baby bump on the red carpet of the Palm Springs International Film Festival. A source later told Page Six, "Sophie is a few months along, and both she and Benedict are very excited about it," adding that the "Sherlock" star was "delighted and excited about becoming a dad."

The source also claimed that the happy couple was "also quietly planning to marry in early spring."

The pregnancy news came two months after Benedict announced his engagement to Sophie in a small notice posted on the page 57 of The Times of London. "The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katherine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London," the announcement read.

Benedict will next be seen in upcoming movie "Black Mass" along with Johnny Depp, Kevin Bacon, Joel Edgerton, Sienna Miller and Dakota Johnson. Directed by Scott Cooper, the crime thriller flick is set to hit theaters in the U.S. on September 18.
