The '60 Minutes' correspondent releases a statement after report of his scandalous fling with a lawyer broke out.

AceShowbiz - Steve Kroft admitted that he had a nasty three-year affair with a New York City lawyer, Lisan Goines, and apologized for it. "I had an extramarital affair that was a serious lapse of personal judgment and extremely hurtful to my wife and family, and for that I have nothing but regret. My wife and I are committed to each other and are working hard to get past this, and consider it a private matter," he said in a statement to Page Six.

The scandal reportedly started in May 2011 when the CBS newsman and Goines met at a bar at St. Regis hotel. She was engaged to be married back then. The National Enquirer (via Radar Online) obtained some racy text messages exchanged between Kroft and Goines, such as "Come and let me devour u." Another text message sent by Kroft read, "Working late. Just ordered out. Would rather be eating your pudding." The mistress allegedly replied, "Don't work too hard this week bc I wanna wear you out afterward."

Kroft and the brunette were spotted on December 17, a few miles from the home Kroft and his wife share. Kroft and his wife Jennet Conant, writer of "A Covert Affair", have been married since 1991 and have a son together.

The "60 Minutes" host furthermore insisted that the affair had no effect on his job. He said, "This was a personal failure, not a professional one, and had no impact whatsoever on my job as a journalist."
