The duo who helmed and wrote the first 'Lego Movie' is expected to pull a double duty as screenwriters as well as producers.

AceShowbiz - Phil Lord and Chris Miller have decided to step down from the helming duty for "The Lego Movie 2", but Warner Bros. apparently manages to convince the duo to once again help with the script. Deadline reports they have been signed on to write the screenplay for the sequel.

The second movie is scheduled to hit theaters sometime in 2018. It will be preceded by "Ninjago" in 2016 with Charlie Bean at the helm and "The Lego Batman Movie" in 2017 with Chris McKay behind the lens. Lord and Miller serve as producers for the three upcoming flicks.

"The Lego Movie" opened this January to an overwhelmingly positive review. It debuted atop box office with a solid $69 million, marking the second highest weekend debut in February after "The Passion of The Christ" ($83.8 million). It has since collected $468 million worldwide.

Chris Pratt voiced the lead role, Will Ferrell voiced the villain, Will Arnett voiced Batman, Channing Tatum voiced Superman, Jonah Hill voice Green Lantern, and Cobie Smulders voiced Wonder Woman. Rumor has it, Pratt will return for the sequel and Arnett will reprise his role for the solo Lego Batman film.
