AceShowbiz - Alicia Keys held a protest along with thirty other women in front of Nigerian consulate in New York on Tuesday, October 14. The "If I Ain't Got You" hitmaker tried to raise awareness along with 30 other women on the day which marked six months since 219 schoolgirls were kidnapped by Boko Haram militants back in April.
Alicia and her group of protesters held some signs which read, "We Are Here to Bring Back Our Girls Now." They chanted, "Bring back our girls," and, "When do we want them? Now! Now! Alive!" during the crowded lunch hour as some New Yorkers stopped to take pictures and videos.
The "You Don't Know My Name" singer was accompanied by her husband Swizz Beatz. "Today is my son's birthday and it is also making me stand in solidarity with all the mothers of the Chibok girls who have been abducted for six months and are still missing," she said, "It is just outrageous that that's going on. Some people have even told me they've heard things about 'there's been progress,' but there hasn't been progress because the girls aren't back."
Alicia continued, "So I think that we get mixed information. We don't know, so we just have to keep being made aware of what's happening."
The pregnant singer also took to Instagram to publicize the protest. She posted a picture of one of the signs she brought which read "#Bring Back Our Girls Now" along with caption, "On my lil guys birthday I stand with the mothers of Chibok!! We can't ignore 6 months of this tragedy!! What if it was you or me? I want to remind you that in this darkness, your voice matters! #BringBackOurGirlsNOW!! Let's do something about this. I've signed this, now you!"
