Chelsea Handler opened up about having a celebrity friend like Jennifer Aniston in an interview with HuffPost Live on Thursday, October 9. She shared, "Everywhere I go, people ask me about Jennifer Aniston's wedding. Like everywhere I go."
The former "Are You There, Chelsea?" star continued, "I always say to her, I'm like, 'Being friends with you is a burden. You think it's hard to be friends with me?! Do you know what it's like to walk down a red carpet and [reporters] go 'When are Jen and Justin [Theroux] getting married?' - like I'm in charge of that!' " Chelsea said she would not spill her friends' "secret" for the sake of comedy.
During the interview, the former "Chelsea Lately" host also talked about her experience with "Saturday Night Live". She explained that she once met with "SNL" producers who offered her a hosting job but never followed through.
Chelsea shared, "They said, 'You're gonna host.' I was doing Radio City Music Hall that night. I had three sold-out shows at Radio City Music Hall. I went over, I met with whoever was working with [Lorne Michaels] - [producer] Marci Klein was working for him at the time."
She added, "They're gonna hate that I'm talking about this right now, but I really don't have a problem with that. So they said, 'Oh, we have to have you host.' My agent called, he said, 'You're hosting 'SNL'. They're gonna give you a date in the fall.' And then it never happened."
Chelsea claimed the show asked her to host a second time when her book "Uganda Be Kidding Me" was published. "I said, 'OK, great. Well, they blew me off last time, I don't know what the issue was,' " she recalled, "And I think the thing I heard was something like ... the writers have a problem anytime we bring on a comedian, which is complete nonsense. I mean, Sarah [Silverman]'s hosted, Lena Dunham hosted it."
Chelsea said the biggest problem was not because she didn't get to host "SNL" but because the producers weren't straightforward about their reasons why. "I feel bad for people who can't just say, 'Listen, you're just not our cup of tea,' " she added.
