Leonardo DiCaprio, under his Appian Way banner, is looking forward to adapting the story of female alpha wolf O-Six into a feature film. The story will be based on "American Wolf", a book proposal by Senior Editor at Texas Monthly, Nate Blakeslee.
DiCaprio is partnering with Kevin McCormick of Langley Park to pick up the movie rights to the book. They will produce the pic together with Appian's Jennifer Killoram. However, they are reportedly not the only ones eying to bring the story to the big screen. According to THR, New Regency and Robert Zemeckis' ImageMovers are also in on the bidding.
O-Six is a female alpha wolf who captivated the scientific and tourist community when she was collared and tracked by the researches at Yellowstone National Park. Tragically, she was shot by a hunter in 2012 just outside the park.
Blakeslee, who sold the proposal for a seven-figure book deal earlier this week, was able to track down the hunter who remains unnamed to this day. The story will focus on the impact O-Six had on the humans around her, the business of wolf-watching at Yellowstone and the public outrage at the hunter.
