Shortly after announcing "Something in the Water" during her appearance in the Friday, September 26 episode of "Today" show, Carrie Underwood shared a preview of the new single. She lets fans listen to a short snippet of the song in a newly-posted YouTube video showing her at a photo shoot for her new album, "Greatest Hits: Decade #1".
The new single, which according to its teaser will be a mid-tempo ballad, was co-written by Underwood with Chris DeStefano and Brett James. It's produced by her longtime collaborator Mark Bright. The song will be released on Monday, September 29.
"It's really kind of a joyous, uplifting song about changing your life for the better and kind of having that 'a-ha' moment, to waking up and your life being different from that moment forward," Underwood said of the song on "Today".
" 'Something in the Water' is so inspirational," she added in a statement. "It's joyous! I can't help but smile when I hear it. I hope it has the same effect on everyone who listens to it."
The track is the first offering from the "Greatest Hits: Decade #1" album that's coming out on December 9 via Arista Nashville. The record will also feature 18 No. 1 songs by the singer. "I can't believe it's been a decade since I auditioned for 'American Idol'. Looking back at the songs I've released over the years lets me relive my amazing journey. Even better I get to include new music for the fans!" she continued.
