Jonas Akerlund is on board to direct the graphic novel adaptation which is described as 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' meets 'Bullets Over Broadway'.

AceShowbiz - The graphic novel "Zombie Broadway" is being developed as a feature movie. The 2008 Virgin Comics book was written by Eurythmics co-creator and record producer Dave Stewart who worked together with David Harris and Christine Schenley.

"Zombie Broadway" tells a zombie outbreak in New York City that can only be quelled by the song and dance of the Broadway stage. According to Deadline, Cole Haddon has been assigned to write the script as a horror musical while Jonas Akerlund is slated to direct. Stewart is writing the music with Michael Bradford.

"My world revolves around music and film," Stewart said in a statement. "I've always been obsessed with the idea of film married with a story and music. Jonas has shot loads of music videos, but one of the first ones that caught my attention was 'Smack My Bitch Up'. I was not let down when I met him, not only with his wild imagination but his ability to execute his ideas under massive duress of time and budget."

First Artist Ventures is financing the project early in its development stage but will take the script to other financiers and talent. "Lee Daniels' The Butler" producers Pam Williams and David Jacobson will produce while Stewart executive produce. Filming is scheduled to start next year.
