Keira Knightley Added to Female Lead Casting Rumors for 'True Detective' Season 2

The former 'Pirates of the Caribbean' actress joins the casting mix that includes Rosario Dawson, Jessica Biel, and Rachel McAdams.

AceShowbiz - Search for the new female lead on "True Detective" season 2 continues. After HBO confirmed Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell, now a new rumor swirls on the internet suggesting that Keira Knightley is eyed to join the upcoming sophomore season which will be directed by Justin Lin ("Fast and Furious").

Other actresses in the mix include Rosario Dawson, Kelly Reilly, Jessica Biel, Malin Akerman, Abigail Spencer, Oona Chaplin, Jaimie Alexander, and Brit Marling. Deadline reports they all were invited to read for creator Nic Pizzolatto on Thursday, September 18. Rachel McAdams is also among in the casting rumors, but she allegedly has scheduling conflict.

The new season will follow "three police officers and a career criminal" who "must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder." Vaughn will play Frank Semyon, "a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner." Meanwhile, Farrell will star as Ray Velcoro, "a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him."
