AceShowbiz - On the red carpet at the Emmy Awards, showrunner Issa Lopez announced that she is hard at work on season 5 of "True Detective". "I'm deep in the writing and in the smack of it," she told TheWrap.
Despite the time jump between season 4 and 5, Lopez emphasized that they exist within the same universe. "The references are going to be more to season 4," she said, hinting at the return of supernatural elements.
Season 5 will introduce a new case, different characters and a new setting, but Lopez teased that there will be "so many connections that are going to come from Ennis." This suggests that the events and characters of "True Detective: Night Country" will have a significant impact on the upcoming season.
As for the possibility of sSeason 4 stars Jodie Foster and Kali Reis reprising their roles, Lopez remained coy, saying, "You will have to watch it."
Lopez praised the cast of "Night Country", which included lesser-known actors such as Reis, Finn Bennett, Isabella Star LaBlanc and Anna Lambe. She emphasized that her casting process is based on the way the character "starts speaking and walking and moving" in her imagination.
Despite being nominated for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, "True Detective: Night Country" ultimately lost to Netflix's "Baby Reindeer". However, it became the franchise's most-watched season.
Lopez expressed her gratitude for the recognition, which she views as a testament to her immigrant experience. "I am Mexican. I speak Spanish, so as an immigrant, it also means the world," she said.
All four seasons of "True Detective" are available to stream on Max.
