"Hercules" tanked at box office this summer, but it was not the only problems for director Brett Ratner. He was slapped with a lawsuit on Thursday, August 28 by a woman named Lauryn Flynn who was reportedly injured at his home during a party after the film's premiere.
The 42-year-old stylist claims she was among the 100-200 guests partying at Ratner's basement when someone accidentally broke a glass table. She says that she was struck in the leg with glass shards and tore her Achilles tendon. The injury left her with a total of 87 stitches.
According to the defendant, no one called 911 because "it would have generated bad publicity for Brett." She also claimed overhearing the director saying, "People get hurt here all the time. Just clean it up." She was eventually taken to the hospital that night by an Uber car service.
According to the lawsuit obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Lauryn complains she has been unable to work since the incident. She is seeking unspecified damages.
Starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, "Hercules" managed to collect $161 million worldwide with $70 million from domestic theaters after previously opening at only $29 million against a $100 million production budget. A week before the theatrical release, the film was already plagued with bad publicity.
"Watchmen" and "V for Vendetta" writer Alan Moore criticized the use of Steve Moore's name in the film's promotion and called for boycott of the movie. According to Allan, the initial deal was Steve's name would not appear in any promotion because he didn't get any money from the adaptation. However, Steve's name started appearing as the film's marketing tool after his death earlier this year.
