Universal has booked a release date for "Pitch Perfect 2". It is set to come out Stateside on May 15, 2015. Elizabeth Banks, who produced the first movie and played a small but memorable role in it, will make her directorial debut with the sequel. Writer Kay Cannon is also back as a scribe.

The sequel to Anna Kendrick's 2012 musical comedy will face competition from WB's actioner "Mad Max: Fury Road" which stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. Those movies will hit theaters two weeks after Marvel's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" arrives on May 1.

Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak" also gets a release date. The gothic romance horror starring Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, and Charlie Hunnam will arrive nationwide on Friday, October 16, 2015, a week after Jon Favreau's "The Jungle Book".

Legendary Pictures' micro-budgeted thriller "As Above, So Below", meanwhile, will open August 15, 2014. Directed by John Erick Dowdle ("Quarantine"), it will follow a group of explorers who venture into the catacombs that lie beneath the streets of Paris. It faces off "The Expendables 3" and "The Giver".

Other films get release dates are as follows:

  • "A Walk Among the Tombstones" - a crime thriller based on Lawrence Block's novel will make its way out on September 19, 2014. Directed by Scott Frank, it has Liam Neeson and Dan Stevens dealing with kidnapping.
  • "Ouija" - an adaptation of the popular board game will open on October 24, 2014 against horror flick "Paranormal Activity 5". Produced by Michael Bay, the supernatural pic casts Olivia Cooke and Douglas Smith.
  • "Everest (2015)" - a survival drama starring Jason Clarke, John Hawkes, and Jake Gyllenhaal will arrive in 3D and IMAX 3D February 27, 2015. It follows two different expeditions as they attempt to climb the world's highest mountain.
