The latest Disney animation is the biggest earner at the box office over the first weekend in 2014, while 'Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones' is the only newcomer debuting on the top 10.

AceShowbiz - "Frozen (2013)" is still going strong, adding an estimated $20.7 million after six weeks of wide release. Although it's 28|percent| less than last week's ticket sales, it's enough to get the movie to the throne at North American box office for second non-consecutive week and prevent "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" from debuting atop the chart.
The Thanksgiving movie voiced by Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Darren Criss among others nearly crosses the $300 million mark domestically with its national haul currently hitting $297.8 million, $97 million more than Disney's previous animation "Tangled". It additionally rakes in $52.5 million overseas from 49 markets, pushing its worldwide gross to $639.9 million through Sunday.
It's rare for a seven-week-old movie to outshine a strong newcomer and collects more than $20 million in domestic market. Only "Avatar" and "Titanic" have done better in the sixth week of their respective wide releases. On top of that, the animation will become the fourth 2013 movie to skate past the $300 barrier, following "Iron Man 3", "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire", and "Despicable Me 2".
"Frozen" becomes Disney's most successful movie of all time after "The Lion King and ranks the fourth among original animated films of all time.
At the runner-up place this first weekend of 2014, the "Paranormal Activity" spin-off which targeted Spanish-speaking audience debuts with approximately $18.2 million. Although it opens less than any other titles in the horror franchise, it's considered an okay start considering its mere $5 million budget. In the foreign market, the Paramount release gains an estimated $16.2 million. "It is a great expansion of the brand," the studio's vice chairman Rob Moore says.
The rest of the top 10 is filled with holdovers. "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" finishes at the third place with approximately $16.3 million, pushing its domestic total to $229.6 million. It fares even better outside the country with $58 million, bringing its global haul to $756.6 million. "The Wolf of Wall Street" sits at No. 4, narrowly beating "American Hustle".
