The 'Tightrope' songstress plays a 'cyber-server' in a futuristic night club where she catches the eye of the crooner.

AceShowbiz - After wearing her hair down as she performed American Bandstand-style with an all-female backing band in her "Dance Apocalyptic" clip that premiered last July, soul singer Janelle Monae puts on her signature up do back for her brand new music video "Primetime". The track, which features R'n'B crooner Miguel, is a cut from Monae's album "The Electric Lady", coming on the heels of "Dance Apocalyptic" and before that, the Erykah Badu-assisted lead single "Q.U.E.E.N."
In the five-minute-plus Alan Ferguson-directed "emotion picture," Monae plays a "cyber-server" Cindi Mayweather working at the Electric Sheep nightclub in "Slop City" where "show droids" entertain rich and lonely patrons. This is where she meets Miguel as Joey Vice, who follows her after she quits her job at the club and takes her strolling and just hanging out.
"Incidentally, the innovative cybersoul music played at the club directly impacted Cindi, and she began singing and performing her own innovative compositions a short time after quitting this assignment," wrote Monae about the storyline for the stylized video. In a way, it was how she and Ferguson depicted what an "electric lady" could "dream and aspire" to be.
Aside from Miguel in "Primetime" and Badu in "Q.U.E.E.N.", "The Electric Lady" also features collaborations with other artists as Prince in "Givin Em What They Love", Esperanza Spalding in "Dorothy Dandridge Eyes", and Solange Knowles in the carrier single "Electric Lady".
