AceShowbiz - A new reboot for "Zorro" franchise is currently being developed at Sony Pictures. While it is called a reboot, this latest adaptation of the sword-wielding Spanish outlaw reportedly will not be a remake because it will tell the origin tale of the comic book icon based on Isabel Allende's 2005 novel.
According to Deadline, Sony has hired Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia to pen the script for the project. Both scribes are well known for their television works, including "Jericho", "Warehouse 13" and "Human Target". They are currently serving as the supervising producers for the ABC's "Charlie's Angels".
"Zorro" revolves around a fabled masked outlaw who lived during the Spanish colonial era of California in the 18th century. Zorro, which means 'fox' in English, is the secret identity of a nobleman named Don Diego de la Vega. The character is known for his "Z" sword-slashing trademark when fighting with his enemies.
The story has been adapted into more than forty movies and a number of TV series. The last film adaptation of Zorro was Michael Campbell's "The Legend of Zorro", which stars Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Released in 2005, the film grossed $142, 4 million internationally.
