Gemma Arterton is going to bring to life one of famous children fairytales. The 24-year-old actress has been cast as Gretel in "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters". Diane Kruger, Eva Green and Noomi Rapace were named as possible depicter of the main female character, but Arterton eventually wins the part.

Arterton is likely to star opposite Jeremy Renner who has been reported to portray her Gretel's brother, Hansel. However, The Hollywood Reporter says that scheduling has been an issue since "The Hurt Locker" actor has only eight weeks break between "Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol" production and "The Avengers" principal photography.

Director Tommy Wirkola is expected to start the filming for "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" in Berlin on March 7. The movie will pick up with the fairy tale siblings years after the traumatic childhood incident turned them into bounty hunters.

No release date is set for the dark action movie but it is believed that Paramount will get ahead of Fox's adaptation of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" by director Timur Bekmambetov that is scheduled for June 22, 2012 release.

Gemma Arterton was last seen in "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" and "Tamara Drewe". She recently said that she lands a role in "Waiting for Robert Capa" which will also feature Andrew Garfield.
