A representative for Karina confirms that her engagement to fellow dancer Maksim has been called off.

AceShowbiz - Maksim Chmerkovskiy and his dancer fiancee Karina Smirnoff call off their engagement. The news has been confirmed by her representative, who tells Marc Malkin of E! News, "I am confirming that they did indeed break up." The representative doesn't disclose on the reason that prompts the pair's split though. No immediate comment just yet from Maksim's camp regarding the report.
Both Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff are professional dancers who have participated in "Dancing with the Stars". They began dating in the summer of 2008 and announced their engagement on December 31 the same year.
Since that time, Maksim and Karina often shared with the press what they had in mind regrading their wedding plans. Back in June, she opened up to Us Weekly about meeting with a wedding planner for her planned nuptials. At that time she gushed, "We're really excited. I definitely want that fairy tale, big skirt ball gown. When else can you wear that?"
