Queen Latifah has backed the foregoing report about the sequel treatment of hit 2007 comedy musical "Hairspray". Sharing her insight on the matter to MTV News, the actress/hip hop artist stated that she has recently got an e-mail about the sequel saying, "I got an e-mail from people connected to the last movie. It said: 'Keep your ears peeled.'"

Further, the 38-year-old also mentioned that her character Motormouth Maybell will return to the follow-up movie alongside the other original characters and she is up for it. Though noting further that she doesn't have a clue on the possible storyline, she insisted that Adam Shankman and John Waters are developing the material. "I don't know what he's writing or what the concept is," she claimed. "But I'm glad they're doing another 'Hairspray,' and I'm glad he's writing it."

Back in late July, it has been reported that "Hairspray 2" is planned. New Line Cinema have inked a deal with the film's creator John Waters signing him in to write down the sequel's script. The studio are also expecting director/choreographer Adam Shankman, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, and Tony-winning songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman to come back and work their magic on the second movie.

Telling the story of Tracy Turnblad, a pleasantly plump high school student turned TV dancing show star, "Hairspray" was based on the Tony Award-winning 2002 Broadway musical of the same name. Released on July 20, 2007, it stars John Travolta, Nikki Blonsky, Michelle Pfeiffer, Amanda Bynes, James Marsden, Brittany Snow and Zac Efron. Ever since its release, the flick has grossed $200.6 million worldwide.
