Robin Williams is invading the small screen, again. The actor-comedian, who has done television, stage and film work, has signed on to guest star on NBC's drama series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit".

Williams is set to portray the role of an engineer who, having suffered through a life-changing tragedy, has developed a deep distrust of authority and feels compelled to inform others about the dangers in "leading unquestioning lives," NBC has confirmed. The "Special Victims Unit" episode with Williams is the show's 200th.

The episode, which films later this month, is scheduled to air April 29.

"We are thrilled that one of the most talented and versatile actors around will be starring in this powerful and complex special 200th episode," the series executive producer Neal Baer said Tuesday, March 18. "We can't imagine anyone else doing this role."

Williams is the next after fellow comedians, like Martin Short, Bob Saget, and Jerry Lewis, to have guest-starred on the TV series.
