Pierce Brosnan Exclaiming
Movie

Pierce Brosnan is joining Meryl Streep to topline Universal Pictures' stage play-based flick "Mamma Mia!."

Well, this sure will be one of the unusual acting stints Pierce Brosnan ever takes. The former James Bond has given positive sign to join Meryl Streep in "Mamma Mia!", the big screen adaptation of hit musical stage play of the same title.

"I said yes right away because it meant working with Meryl Streep," the actor admitted. "Secondly, I saw the show with my family in London, and found it just so wonderfully happy and joyful, and so pitched in time forever in the 1970s. What a kick in the pants, to be able to go off and spend time with Meryl on some Greek island, singing ABBA songs."

Produced by Universal Pictures in collaboration with Playtone and Littlestar, the movie will see Brosnan portray Sam, one of three men summoned to a Greek isle by a young woman who believes one of them is her father. Filming is slated to begin June 25 this year in London and Greece under the direction of Phyllida Lloyd, who previously directed the theatrical version in its London and Broadway runs.

Working on the script is "Love Hurts" screenwriter Catherine Johnson with Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, and Judy Craymer seating as producers. Meanwhile, Hanks' wife Rita Wilson is executive producing alongside Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA whose songs the play was based on.
