A collaborative production between StudioCanal and Jet Tone Production Co., the picture follows a young woman as she embarks on a journey across the country to search for answers about love. Cast consists of A-list actors like Jude Law, David Strathairn, Rachel Weisz, and Natalie Portman with Norah Jones landing her acting debut here.

Renowned Hong-Kong filmmaker Wong Kar Wai was assigned to direct as well as to write, which he carried out with Lawrence Block, also to produce alongside Jean Louis Piel, Jacky Pang and Wang Wei. Filming took place in the States using locations in Nevada and New York City with some scenes being shot at The Arcade plus Ernestine and Hazel's in Memphis.
