Adam Shankman, the helm for the movie project, has joined New Line Cinema to produce the adaptation of Broadway's "Hairspray".

The movie attaches Disney Channel's young actor, Zac Efron in the original movie, "High School Musical". Several more senior stars are ready to co-star the films, namely John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Amanda Bynes, and Brittany Snow. This film is going to be a debut for Nicole Blonsky to play the role as Tracy Turnbald after she won a nationwide search.

Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, as the producers, together with Shankman, have set the time to start shooting, which is on the next September 5. The schedule brings consequence to Efron to postpone his new days as freshman in USC. The movie itself is also targeted the summer 2007 to release.
