Pentatonix

Pentatonix has become the new kings (and queen) of Christmas music. The five-member a cappella group recently scored their second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with their latest album "A Pentatonix Christmas".

PTX's fifth studio album peaked the chart after getting 206,000 total copies sold in its ninth week, including 185,000 in traditional album sales, according to Nielsen Music. The record also became the first holiday album to land at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in five years, since Michael Buble's "Christmas", and earned the largest sales week for a holiday album in two years, since the group's previous holiday record "That's Christmas to Me".

Pentatonix put on an incredible performance of "New Year's Day" on NBC's "New Year's Eve with Carson Daly" on December 31.

Following their NYE performance, members Avi Kaplan, Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola and Mitch Grassi thanked fans for their love and support via Twitter.

Formed in 2011, Pentatonix came to prominence after winning the third season of NBC's "The Sing-Off". After receiving $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony Music, the group later formed their own YouTube channel, distributing its music through Madison Gate Records, a label owned by Sony Pictures.

PTX's YouTube channel is currently the 13th most-subscribed music video channel with over 11.5 million subscribers and 1.80 billion views.

PENTATONIX BIO

Pentatonix is best known for winning the third season of "The Sing-Off" in 2011. The a capella group was first formed by high school friends Kirstie Maldonado, Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying. They started gaining attention on YouTube with their version of Beyonce Knowles and Lady GaGa's "Telephone". The trio named themselves Pentatonix after being joined by two new members Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola. The five-piece then auditioned for the NBC singing competition and signed a recording contract with Sony Music after being crowned the winner.
