HBO Gives 'Veep' and 'Silicon Valley' Early Renewals

HBO has ordered more "" and "". The premium cable channel has handed out early renewals for its two critically-acclaimed comedies, bringing the -starring political comedy and the tech geniuses-centered sitcom back for a fifth season and a third season respectively.

" 'Veep' and 'Silicon Valley' are terrific series, and I'm immensely proud that they will return to HBO next year," said HBO programming president Michael Lombardo in a statement released on Monday, April 13. "Along with '' and '', both of which have already been renewed for 2016, they give HBO a stellar Sunday night like no other."

"" creator Armando Iannucci has stepped down from his position as showrunner after four seasons. HBO announced the decision on Friday, April 10, revealing that "" executive producer David Mandel was appointed to take over the job.

"We have had conversations with Armando for some time about the challenges of maintaining his family life in London and producing a show in the states," the network said in a statement. "Armando is not replaceable but we are confident that 'Veep' will continue to be produced at the highest levels with new showrunner, David Mandel. David has worked with HBO for many years as executive producer, writer and director for 'Curb Your Enthusiasm'."

She needs the help of Gary (Tony Hale) to show that she is a "she-wolf." Gary, in the meantime, stresses how important he is as Selina's "calendar, Google, and Wilson the volleyball."

Still in the mid of its second season, "" has received a new season order. HBO has renewed the comedy series starring as a vice president for a 10-episode third season, which will air in 2014.

Premiering April 21, "Veep" opened to 1.4 million viewers during its inaugural 10 P.M. ET broadcast and has since averaged 3.7 million total weekly viewers. The show stars Emmy winner as a disenfranchised vice president of the United States.
