As we catch back up with Chester's Mill, all hell is breaking loose. What's causing the earthquakes? Where does this new tunnel lead? Is it another way out? Just then, Big Jim (Dean Norris) brings Pauline (Sherry Stringfield) back over to the group. She's been stabbed by Lyle (who's now dead) and needs medical attention. As Sam (Eddie Cahill) and the others start to help, Pauline tells Julia (Rachelle Lefevre) that she's had a vision; Julia has indeed been chosen by the Dome, but so has someone else -- a man who's face she can't clearly see, and who doesn't know he's also been selected. They take Pauline back to the school, just as thunder booms overhead. In the distance, someone is shouting; it sounds like it's coming from Tom's (Estes Tarver) farm, and Barbie (Mike Vogel) and Julia run off to investigate. They find Tom pinned under a piece of equipment, and his son Aiden trying desperately to free him. Barbie also works in vain to save him -- until suddenly, Tom's struck and killed by a bolt of lightning. The pair pulls Aiden away and runs to safety. Back at school, Sam is at a loss; Pauline needs surgery, but he can't perform it -- nor do they even have the means.

Joe (Colin Ford), Norrie (Mackenzie Lintz), and Hunter (Max Ehrich) look for a wifi signal, but to no avail. It's time for Plan B; Joe ties a rope to a nearby tree and, despite Norrie's initial reluctance, the trio climbs down into the tunnel to investigate. Meanwhile, Rebecca (Karla Crome) and Sam make Pauline as comfortable as possible. Sam pulls Big Jim aside and explains -- Pauline is bleeding out and needs surgery desperately. There's not much he can do. Big Jim insists the Dome chose him (and his family) for a reason, and that they've got save her. Meanwhile, Pauline asks Junior to bring her some supplies; maybe she can still "paint" their way out of Chester's Mill. Junior leaves, giving Pauline time to speak with Rebecca. Pauline believes the Dome is through with her, and all that matters now is Junior's safety. She asks Rebecca to help her go peacefully. In the meantime, the kids explore the tunnel -- which is riddled with glowing purple "veins" throughout the rock. As they come to a fork in the tunnel, a monarch butterfly floats past and rounds a corner. Believing the monarch is showing them the way out of the Dome, the trio runs back towards the tunnel's entrance -- just as another earthquake creates a crack in the floor...

Barbie finds the teens emerging from the tunnel, and they tell him about their discovery. He radios everyone with the news, and Sam and Rebecca start to round up the town. Joe and Norrie have a heart-to-heart -- with Norrie tearfully wondering what life will be like outside the Dome without her mother. As Junior gathers Pauline's supplies, he sees her last painting -- it's her, with a mouthful of blood and a stab wound to the stomach. Meanwhile, Pauline asks for Rebecca's help once again; out of compassion, Rebecca reaches for a syringe and a bottle of morphine. Big Jim returns to the school only to discover that Pauline is fading away. She dies, and Rebecca doesn't hide the syringe still in her hand. She explains why she complied with Pauline's request, but it's all too much for Big Jim. He snaps -- knocking Sam out and pushing Rebecca to the ground. Grabbing a hammer, he tells her "No one will miss you" -- and strikes Rebecca with deadly force.

Big Jim takes Pauline's body to her art studio -- and asks for the Dome to bring her back to life. Otherwise, he'll make all of the Dome's "special people" pay. Nothing happens. He covers Pauline with a blanket before setting the entire studio on fire. Barbie and the rest of Chester's Mill are gathered around the new tunnel; Carolyn (Aisha Hinds), Joe, and Norrie help start the trek underground, while Hunter and Julia stay above. Suddenly, Andrea (Dale Raoul) radios Julia, asking for help. Despite her suspicions, Julia agrees -- only to find Big Jim holding Andrea hostage. In cold blood, he shoots Andrea dead before attacking Julia. Having grabbed a knife on her way into Andrea's house, Julia stabs Big Jim in the foot, buying some time to run towards the forest. She finds Sam and Junior, and Junior confronts his father once more ... before shooting him in the shoulder. Julia enters the tunnel -- but another earthquake makes the crack in the floor too deep to cross. Julia realizes it was Barbie who Pauline saw in her vision; it's his job to get everyone out, and if he does what the Dome asks, it'll protect her in return. Reluctantly, he leaves Julia behind. The group keeps moving through the tunnel, ultimately discovering hundreds of monarchs. But when they fly away, they reveal a dead end. Suddenly, a lone monarch lands on the wall. When Barbie touches it where the monarch landed, a web of light starts appearing through the rock.

It crumbles down, revealing Melanie (Grace Victoria Cox) standing in a bright white light. "Follow me. We're going home," she says.
