Matt Smith Leaving 'Doctor Who' After Christmas Special
June 03, 2013 09:06:44Matt Smith is done traveling as Doctor Who after starring on the British series for four years. BBC announced the actor's departure on its official blog, saying that Smith "will leave the role at the end of this year after starring in the unmissable 50th Anniversary in November and regenerating in the Christmas special."
The 30-year-old who earned a BAFTA nomination for his role on the popular sci-fi show stated, "Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show... Many of them have become good friends and I'm incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last four years."

'Doctor Who' Officially Renewed for Season 8
May 20, 2013 03:05:06On the heels of its season 7 finale, "Doctor Who" has been confirmed to return for an eighth season. BBC announces through its blog that it has ordered a new season of the sci-fi series and reveals that executive producer Steven Moffat is "already plotting a brand new run of adventures for the Doctor."
To celebrate the 50th annivaersary of "Doctor Who", a 3D special is slated to air November 23. Current stars Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman as well as former cast members David Tennant and Billie Piper will star in the special along with John Hurt, Jemma Redgrave and Joanna Page.

April 01, 2013 08:04:39David Tennant and Billie Piper will team up once again as the tenth Doctor and his companion Rose Tyler in "Doctor Who" 50th anniversary special, BBC America has officially announced. They join the show's all-star cast which also includes Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman, who play the current Doctor and his newest companion Clara Oswald, as well as British screen veteran John Hurt.
Produced by BBC Cymru Wales for BBC One, the 50th anniversary special will be written by Steven Moffat and Directed by Nick Hurran. Filming will begin this week and it's said that the special episode could end up being up to 90 minutes long. The special will reportedly screen in 3D theaters at the same time it airs on BBC One.

'Doctor Who' New Season 7 Promo Teases Dinosaurs on Spaceship
August 02, 2012 04:08:56A bunch of new footage from the upcoming season 7 of "Doctor Who" has been previewed in a trailer. The Doctor looks very excited when seeing dinosaurs on a spaceship in one scene, and is having an argument with Amy Ponds in a western scene. Toward the end of it, he is seen carrying Amy who seems unconscious, while Rory Williams asks who killed the Daleks.
The new season of the British sci-fi series will premiere on BBC America this fall. Karen Gillan's Amy as well as Arthur Darvill's Rory will make a "heartbreaking departure after one final series of roller-coaster voyages" in the fifth episode of the season.

Gushing about Coleman's character, executive producer Stephen Moffat said when announcing the casting news, "It's not often the Doctor meets someone who can talk even faster than he does, but it's about to happen." He coyly added, "Jenna is going to lead him on his merriest dance yet. And that's all you're getting for now."

'Doctor Who' May Invite Sophie Okonedo

The "Hotel Rwanda" star is said to have already filmed her scenes as mysterious character Liz Ten for the cult U.K. sci-fi series, which sees a new Time Lord, Matt Smith, take over from David Tennant later this year.
A source tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "Getting Sophie on board is a huge coup for the BBC. The forthcoming series has been criticized for being a bit light on the big names. But the feeling is less is more. Some fans thought the Kylie Minogue Christmas episode was a bit naff (poor)."
