Volcom executives claim that the diamond logo design used by the husband of Beyonce Knowles for his new entertainment company bears a striking resemblance to their own.
Rap mogul Jay-Z is facing legal action for trademark infringement over the logo design for his new entertainment company Roc Nation. Executives at lifestyle brand Volcom have taken issue with the diamond design used to promote Jay-Z's music publishing and management firm, claiming the symbol bears a striking resemblance to their own, which has been in use since 1991.
The "Empire State of Mind" hitmaker launched the venture in 2008 and the diamond-shaped logo has appeared on Roc Nation-branded clothing, records and headphones. Volcom bosses allege they initially took their complaint directly to Roc Nation owners, but were forced to pursue the matter through the courts after their note was ignored, according to AllHipHop.com.
The lawsuit states, "While Roc Nation appears to have initially used the diamond only in combination with the words 'Roc Nation' it is now using the diamond log on its own, causing a likelihood of confusion among consumers."
Volcom executives are seeking an injunction to stop Roc Nation from using the logo and demanding all existing products featuring the design be destroyed.
