Billy Boyd Proposes His Cameo Role for 'The Hobbit'

Billy Boyd

Boyd's 'LOTR' character was not born in the upcoming movie, but he has an idea to appear as the father of the Hobbit in a quick scene.

"Lord of the Rings" star Billy Boyd wants to appear in the upcoming "The Hobbit" movie - in a disguised cameo role. The actor played a mythical Hobbit in the trilogy alongside Dominic Monaghan, Elijah Wood and Sean Astin, but none of the actors are featured in the movie adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's prequel novel.

But even though the film takes place before his "Lord of the Rings" character was even born, Boyd's keen to convince producer Peter Jackson to allow him to appear in another guise.

He says, "The story of The Hobbit happens 60 years before Lord of the Rings, so all the Hobbits in Lord of the Rings - Sam, Pippin, Merry and Frodo - aren't born. Knowing Pete, and if we're all free, we might show up as each other's fathers or in a quick scene."

Considering the way hobbits are, I think that their fathers would be old enough for them to play them. But I was thinking it would be fun if they could come back in cameos as completely different creatures, not hobbits at all. Maybe elves, or goblins, or just plain old Lake Town men.

Seeing as it was 60 years before Lord Ring (LOTR) means that all there Fathers were 60 and older in LOTR and they might still be teens and how are all three gonna be in one scene if they aren't all related like Gamgees and Brandybucks.

It's a great idea. I'd love to see Billy Boyd and the other LotR hobbits in cameos as their fathers. And wouldn't Orlando Bloom make a great King Thranduil?

    Sep 17, 2010

I think Orlando Bloom could make a cameo as Legolas, seeing as he's an elf.

YES! YES YES YES! That's what I've been hoping for all this time. (Even though I don't think their fathers would have been old enough for the guys to play them, still, it would be too funny and perfect!)
