In a TikTok video, Kate shared her thoughts on how online trolls scrutinize and criticize celebrities. She expressed that it's not nice when people take things out of context or make negative comments about others' appearance or actions.
She then reflected on how she has had to get used to the mean-spirited nature of online criticism, recognizing that most of the trolls who attack her don't even exist and resort to fake Instagram accounts. However, she also acknowledged that some trolls are real people with the intention of hurting others.
Kate pointed out that Oliver was afraid to speak out because of how his comments were being misinterpreted. She emphasized that they had different approaches to online criticism, and while she initially dismissed it, she came to realize that it can affect people.
The actress criticized those who engage in online harassment, saying that they need to question their own behavior and look at their own lives. She suggested that trolls are often jealous, unhappy, or bored, and their actions are not reflective of the person they're targeting.
Kate advised viewers to block trolls and anyone who speaks negatively about others. She stressed that it's not worth giving attention to such negativity.
Earlier this year, Oliver discussed a course he took with the Hoffman Institute, where he delved into the patterns he inherited from his parents and stepparents. He was particularly surprised to discover that his mother was the one he had "almost the most trauma" with.
However, Oliver later clarified that his comments were taken out of context and explained that he has immense love and respect for his mother. He admitted that his comments were made from the perspective of a child who needed more emotional support from his mother.
Kate joked that she knew Oliver's statements would make headlines and quipped that she couldn't "leave [her] brother alone for a second." She also acknowledged that her family is often in the news, especially when they talk about their parents.
