AceShowbiz - Gerry Turner didn't wait too long to make his separation from Theresa Nist legal. The "Golden Bachelor" star immediately filed for divorce from his now-estranged wife after announcing their split on "Good Morning America".

The 72-year-old submitted the divorce papers in an Indiana court on Friday, April 12. In the legal docs, he cited an "irretrievable breakdown" as the reason for the split and listed Friday as the date of separation.

Gerry and Theresa confirmed their split just hours prior on "GMA". The retired restaurateur told host Juju Chang, "Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we've looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth and - and we've kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it's probably time for us to dissolve our marriage."

"We have received so much love and support from so many people who watched 'The Golden Bachelor,' and I don't think we can tell you how many people told us that it gave them so much hope," Theresa stated. "We want none of that to change for anybody."

Gerry and Theresa admitted that deciding where to settle down contributed to their decision to part ways. "We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey, and we just looked at homes after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision," the 70-year-old TV personality shared.

Despite the split, Gerry and Theresa made it clear that they still love each other. "I still love this person... There's no doubt in my mind, I still am in love with her. I root for her every day," Gerry said while holding hands with his ex, who later added, "Yeah, I still love him."

The pair exchanged vows during a live TV special on January 4. Taking place at La Quinta Resort and Club in La Quinta, Calif., the wedding was officiated by "Golden Bachelor" alum Susan Noles and aired live on ABC.
