The 'Boom Clap' songstress is criticized by many social media users over the artwork of her upcoming album, which is slated to be released in summer this year.

AceShowbiz - Charli XCX found herself in hot water over the cover art of her upcoming album "Brat". Shortly after defending the artwork, the "Boom Clap" singer was criticized by many social media users, some of whom deemed the cover art "ugly."

On Thursday, March 14, the 31-year-old songstress got things off her chest about the cover art via X, formerly known as Twitter. In a tweet, she penned, "There is literally so much to say on this…."

Charli was replying to a tweet that read, "Art directors must be on strike. Dear god." The tweet also featured the cover art of "Brat". The artwork itself consists of a bright green screen with a simple black "brat" graphic on it.

The user appeared to have compared Charli's cover art to that of other artists. In the same tweet, the user also attached the artworks for Ariana Grande's "Eternal Sunshine", Taylor Swift's "The Tortured Poets Department" and Dua Lipa's "Radical Optimism".

In a follow-up tweet, Charli appeared to have defended the artwork. She wrote, "I think the constant demand for access to women's bodies and faces in our album artwork is mysoginistic and boring."

While a number of X users agreed with her opinion, others blasted Charli for missing the point of the criticism. In the replies section of her tweet, one of them stated, "So it's either your face/body or it's one word done in picsart ?? are you and the team you hired not capable of creating something artistic without using your face/body? that's pretty sad tbh."

Another asked, "But whose demanding that? Genuinely curious. Doesn't have to be that. No one is saying it has to be a body or your face. Just something creative." A third explained, "You aren't wrong, but the lack of effort in your artwork is also very boring & insulting to your fans considering you are wealthy bc of your music in the first place."

Similarly, a fourth elaborated, "Well..yes and no..girl i love you but you're taking it a bit too deep. your album cover could be made in the paint app, just put some more effort in it. doesn't need to have your face. there's so many iconic album covers with no face/body."
