A few hours before deleting her account, the 'Oops!... I Did It Again' songstress clarifies her motive in writing her memoir 'The Woman in Me', in which she details her painful abortion, stating that she didn't mean 'to offend anyone.'

AceShowbiz - Britney Spears is staying away from social media amid the controversy surrounding her bombshell memoir "The Woman in Me". The avid Instagram user has deactivated her account on the platform after making shocking claims about her past relationship with Justin Timberlake.

The "Hold It Against Me" singer's account was deactivated on Friday night, October 20. As of press time, visiting her Instagram feed produces a message that reads, "Sorry, this page isn't available."

The move comes just a few hours after Britney clarified her motive in writing her first tell-all. In a statement posted on her feed, she wrote, "My book's purpose was not to offend anyone by any means !!! That was me then … that is in the past !!! I don't like the headlines I am reading."

"That's exactly why I quit the business 4 years ago !!! Most of the book is from 20 years ago ... I have moved on and it's a beautiful clean slate from here !!!" she claimed. "I am here to establish it that way for the rest of my entire life !!! Either way, that is the last of it and s**t happens !!!"

Defending her decision to tell her story, the 41-year-old continued, "This is actually a book I didn't know needed to be written … although some might be offended, it has given me closure on all things for a better future !!! Hopefully I can enlighten people who feel particularly alone in most cases or hurt or misunderstood !!!"

Before concluding her message, the Princess of Pop stressed, "Again, my motive for this book was not to harp on my past experiences which is what the press is doing and it's a dumb and silly !!! I have moved on since then !!! #TheWomanInMe."

Among the shocking details that Britney spilled in the book was her alleged abortion during her relationship with Justin. In a new excerpt published by The Associated Press, she detailed her "excruciating" at-home abortion.

"It was important that no one find out about the pregnancy or the abortion, which meant doing everything at home," she wrote, noting that they didn't even tell their families and no doctor was involved.

She described the physical pain of the medication abortion as "excruciating." The "Toxic" songstress added, "I kept crying and sobbing until it was all over. It took hours, and I don't remember how it ended, but I do, twenty years later, remember the pain of it, and the fear."
