The 83-year-old convicted mass murderer has been hospitalized in California and is in grave condition.

AceShowbiz - Charles Manson is hospitalized, 10 months after last health scare. The 83-year-old convicted mass murderer was rushed to a Bakersfield hospital in California three days ago and his prognosis is not good.

TMZ reports that Manson has been wheeled around on a gurney for various treatments with five uniformed cops escorting him anywhere. The former cult leader of a quasi-commune that arose in California in the late 1960s known as the Manson Family reportedly lays still covered in blankets and looks pale.

A source tells the site, "It's not going to get any better for him." His health has been steadily deteriorating and as a source says, "It's just a matter of time."

In January, Manson was hospitalized for severe intestinal bleeding. He needed surgery to repair a lesion, but doctors said he was too weak and sent him back to prison. A source said at the time, "He's not good. His health is failing."

Manson is serving multiple life sentences at California State Prison in Corcoran. On August 9, 1969, he instructed four members of his cult to kill people at a posh house above Sunset Blvd. Among the victims was Roman Polanski's heavily pregnant wife and actress Sharon Tate.

The next night, Manson and the same four followers along with two more broke into the Los Feliz home of supermarket executive Leno LaBianca and his wife Rosemary and slaughtered them.

Manson believed in what he called "Helter Skelter", a term he took from The Beatles' song of the same name. According to his own version of the lyrics to the song, he believed "Helter Skelter" to be an impending apocalyptic race war, and that murders would help precipitate that war.

He was arrested in April 1971 and was found guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder for the deaths of seven people after trial. Manson was originally sentenced to death, but his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment when California invalidated the state's death penalty statute in 1972.
