The 'Batman' actor has 'passed away peacefully' in Los Angeles after 'a short but brave battle with leukemia.'

AceShowbiz - R.I.P Adam West. The actor best known for portraying Batman in 1960s series and later in 1966 movie adaptation has passed away. After a short battle with leukemia, he died Friday night, June 9 in Los Angeles surrounded by his family. He was 88.

"It's with great sadness that we are sharing this news...Adam West passed away peacefully last night after a short but brave battle with leukemia," his family announced on Facebook. "He was a beloved father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather. There are no words to describe how much we'll miss him. We know you'll miss him too and we want you to know how much your love and support meant to him throughout the years. Hug your loved ones today - The West Family"

The family added in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, "Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans' lives. He was and always will be our hero."

Starting 2000, Adam West voiced a character named after himself on FOX's animated show "Family Guy". In the wake of his passing, the show's creator Seth MacFarlane sent his condolence on Twitter, "Family Guy has lost its mayor, and I have lost a friend. Adam West was a joy to work with, and the kind of guy you always wanted to be around. His positivity, good nature, and sense of fun were undeniable, and it was always a big jolt of the best kind of energy when he walked in to record the show. He knew comedy, and he knew humanity."

"I am beyond fortunate to have had the privilege of working with him, and he will be profoundly missed by all of us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you have given, Mr. Mayor. You're irreplaceable," he added.
