The film will follow Reeves as Lucas, an American diamond merchant who attempts to sell rare blue diamonds in Russia and later finds himself in a love-obsessed relationship.
First photo of Keanu Reeves in romantic thriller "Siberia" has been unveiled. The photo has made its way out via The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, May 17.
In the picture, Reeves is standing next to what seems like a carving of USSR symbol. He is seen wearing a light brown coat and a dark blue tie.
In the movie directed by Matthew Ross ("Frank & Lola"), Reeves will play Lucas Hill, an American diamond merchant who attempts to sell rare blue diamonds in Russia. He later finds himself in a love-obssessed relationship with a Russian cafe owner named Katya (Ana Ularu). As their love affair gets more intense, Lucas "falls deeper into the dubious diamond trade negotiation, and struggles to disentangle himself from the Siberian journey in which he has put himself in."
The movie is written by Scott B. Smith and produced by Reeves, Stephen Hamel, Gabriela Bacher, Braden Aftergood and David Hansen. The international sales at the Cannes Film Festival is handled by IM Global.
"Siberia" has begun its production on April 17 in Winnipeg, Canada and will reportedly be set in St. Petersburg, Russia as well. Shortly after the production began, a fan spotted Reeves filming the movie in the tiny rural community of Marquette, which is a subbing in for Siberia landscape.
Also starring in "Siberia" are Pasha Lychnikoff and Molly Ringwald. The release date for the movie hasn't been announced yet.
