The 'Kubo and the two Strings' director will helm the upcoming 'Transformers' spin-off centering on yellow vibrant autobot Bumblebee.

AceShowbiz - "Transformers" spin-off "Bumblebee" has finally got a director. According to Deadline, the spin-off will be helmed by Travis Knight, who directed Oscar-nominated animated movie "Kubo and the Two Strings". "Bumblebee" marks Knight's second directorial project and becomes his first live-action movie.

Knight is the president and CEO of Laika, the animation house that created high-quality animated films such as "The Boxtrolls", "Paranorman" and "Coraline". Knight also served as the lead animator for the three animated movies.

The "Transformers" spin-off "Bumblebee" is penned by Christina Hodson, with Lorenzo Di Bonaventure, Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg producing. Plot detail is still kept under wraps, but fans expect that "Bumblebee" will squarely focus on the vibrant yellow Transformer.

In the "Transformers" movie series, Bumblebee is an autobot with yellow and black paint scheme. Determined and brave, he is one of Optimus Prime's most trusted lieutenants.

Bumblebee will return to the fifth installment of the "Transformers" movie series, titled "Transformers: The Last Knight". The movie, which is set to hit U.S theaters on June 23, shatters the core myths of the "Transformers" franchise and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).
