During his first interview since her mom Johannah Deakin's passing, the One Direction member also talked about being a father and the current state of his friendship with Zayn Malik.

AceShowbiz - Louis Tomlinson's career was almost over after his mom died. Weeks after Johannah Deakin lost her battle with leukemia, the One Direction hottie visited SiriusXM's "Hits 1 in Hollywood" on Wednesday, January 18 and opened up about her mother's passing for the very first time.

During the chat, the 25-year-old singer revealed that he wanted to "throw the towel in" after learning of the sad news. "It's not really something I feel 100 percent comfortable talking too much about, but just quickly, when I first found out about the news I did kind of want to throw the towel in," he shared.

But Louis chose to keep going in honor of his mom. "But it was my mum who said to me that I just have to keep going. She told me very sternly that she wanted me to," he continued.

Just days after Johannah's death, Tomlinson appeared on the U.K.'s "The X Factor" to debut his solo single "Just Hold on" featuring Steve Aoki. "It was tough," he said of returning to the stage after the huge loss. "But I felt like it was nice for me to almost have a little send off for her."

Elsewhere in the interview, Louis also discussed fatherhood and the mended relationship with his former bandmate Zayn Malik. He said that his 1-year-old son Freddie, whom he welcomed with friend Briana Jungwirth, didn't really affect his songwriting.

"It's not as if I'm writing songs about my son. I mean, I love him, obviously. It's affected how I am as a person a little bit. I mean, I'd like to say it's made me a bit more mature. I don't know if that's actually true," he explained. "I've sang to him a couple of times and they are nice lullabies."

Speaking of maturity, Louis said that he'd patched things up with Zayn. The two had a fallout after the "Pillowtalk" hitmaker left the band in 2015, but they reconnected recently. Zayn even showed support for Louis after Johannah's passing.

"I think a lot of us have spoken recently, me and Zayn have spoken recently, we've gotten to a point now where you can just really be happy for each other," Louis said. "Things have happened in the past, of course. And his first song was an absolute smash, and that's a great song, so yeah it's nice."
