The Jason Momoa-led film is expected to start the production next year in Australia, while the 39-year-old helmer shoots down rumor saying that the 49-year-old actor is tapped to play the DC villain.

AceShowbiz - "Aquaman" is expected to begin the filming next year in Australia. Daily Telegraph has reported that the Jason Momoa-led superhero flick will go into pre-production prior to Christmas and will start the filming in 2017.

The site notes that Amber Heard and Willem Dafoe will be in Australia. The 30-year-old actress will reprise her role as Mera, while the 61-year-old actor will portray Nuidis Vulko. According to sources, Michael K. Williams has been attached to play Black Manta, but James Wan has debunked the rumor.

The 39-year-old helmer shot down the casting rumor in a series of tweets on Monday, September 5, saying that it was "exhausting." Asked by one Twitter user to confirm or deny the casting news, Wan simply responded, "Nah, not real." He noted that Williams "is a terrific actor," though.

Momoa made a brief debut as the King of Atlantis in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". The muscled actor will reprise his role in the upcoming DC hero film "Justice League", which hits U.S. theaters on November 17, 2017, before appearing in the "Aquaman" solo film, which is set to be released on July 27, 2018.

Zack Snyder serves as producer. The screenplay is provided by "Gangster Squad" scribe Will Beall along with David Leslie Johnson ("Wrath of the Titans") and Kurt Johnstad ("300: Rise of an Empire") from a treatment by President of DC Entertainment Geoff Johns.
