Black Manta made his debut in 1967's "Aquaman" #35. His abilities include enhanced strength and endurance. It's worth noting that in The New 52, a reboot to the DC Comics universe, Aquaman's archenemy is a normal human without any superhuman powers. He begins his quest for revenge after Aquaman unintentionally killed his father.

As for Momoa, he made his debut as the King of Atlantis in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". The 37-year-old actor will reprise his role in the upcoming DC hero film "Justice League", which hits U.S. theaters on November 17, 2017, before appearing in the "Aquaman" solo film, which is set to be released on July 27, 2018.

Also starring Amber Heard and Willem Dafoe, "Aquaman" is directed by James Wan whose credits included "Furious 7", "The Conjuring" and "Lights Out". Will Beall pens the script along with David Leslie Johnson and Kurt Johnstad from a treatment by President of DC Entertainment Geoff Johns. Zack Snyder produces the film.
