The former 'Gossip Girl' actress will star in time travel-themed comedy pilot 'Making History' from 'The Last Man on Earth' executive producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

AceShowbiz - Leighton Meester is set to return to TV. The Blair Waldorf of The CW's teen hit drama "Gossip Girl" has landed the female lead role in FOX's time travel-themed comedy pilot "Making History" executive produced by "The Last Man on Earth" EPs Phil Lord and Chris Miller as well as Julius "Goldy" Sharpe.
Meester will play Deborah, who is described as a self-educated and incredibly motivated colonial woman who possesses modern ideals despite being trapped in a regressive time. She has contemporary beliefs of gender and racial equality which everyone scoffs at in 1775.
The comedy itself revolves around three unlikely friends who find an even less likely way to travel through time in search of truth, justice and riches, which complicates their lives in 2016. They visit some of the greatest moments of the past as they try to resolve their personal problems, while history and pop culture collide.
Adam Pally has been cast as the male lead, Dan, a nerdy computer science professor at a small college and the "failure" of an accomplished family who is unpopular with both students and colleagues on campus, where his extreme intelligence comes off as odd. Dan invented time travel, hoping to get a fresh start and meet less shallow people. We will see two Dans - the 'nerd rage' guy having a hard time in the present, and the cooler more carefree guy in the past.
Sharpe writes the pilot. Other details, including when the pilot will be filmed and who will direct it, are not available yet.
Meester had turned down numerous offers from major networks after "Gossip Girl" ended in 2012. She starred in several movies, though, namely "The Judge" and "By the Gun". She was last seen on small screen in TV movie "Any Tom, Dick, or Harry".
