Sharing his visions of the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' book series' end, George R. R. Martin coyly says, 'I think you need to have some hope.'

AceShowbiz - Considering the so many deaths and tragic twists that have been seen on "Game of Thrones", it's unsurprising to know that the series will have a "bittersweet" end. Speaking at a discussion at his alma mater Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, George R. R. Martin, the author of "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels on which the show is based, shared his vision of the series' end.

"I think you need to have some hope," he said on Wednesday, November 4. "We all yearn for happy endings in a sense. Myself, I'm attracted to the bittersweet ending." Admitting that he had been asked the same question so many times, he refused to tell them, but coyly added, "I always say to expect something bittersweet in the end."

Giving a hint at the end of his books, Martin envisioned an end which is in the tone of J. R. R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. "I think Tolkien did this brilliantly," he said, "I didn't understand that when I was a kid - when I read 'Return of the King'."

Martin also talked about the TV show catching up to his writing. "I've been hearing them come up behind me for years, and the question is, 'How can I make myself write faster?' " he said, "I think, by now, the answer is, I can't. I write at the pace I write, and what the show is doing is not going to change what the books are."

"Game of Thrones" season 6 is currently in production for a 2016 premiere.
