Michael says he's currently discussing with Steven Spielberg to return for the fifth installment of the sci-fi action, but it's not official yet.

AceShowbiz - Michael Bay is currently in talks to direct "Transformers 5". The 50-year-old director confirmed the news on Twitter on Thursday afternoon, September 17, but said the deal was not official yet. He wrote, "Re: directing TF5. No, it's not official. I have not committed to any idea as of yet. Just met with Steven and we are discussing."

Deadline previously reported that "Transformers 5" writers room wrapped and the early results were in. Akiva Goldsman "walked away with a concrete blue print to write a Transformers sequel for Mark Wahlberg to star in for Michael Bay to direct, with production starting in June."

Among those who participated in the writers room were "Ant-Man" writers Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, "Black Hawk Down" scribe Ken Nolan, Christina Hodson and Lindsey Beer, "The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman, "Iron Man" writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, "Pacific Rim 2" writer Zak Penn, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" writer Jeff Pinkner, "Daredevil" showrunner Steven DeKnight, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

Andrew and Gabriel "will head off and write an animated feature, an origin story that focuses on Cybertron, the planet from which the good and bad Transformer robots hail."

"Transformers 5" is scheduled to be released in the U.S. sometime in 2017.
