A portion of the emotional ballad penned by Linda Perry is featured in a trailer for the Julianne Moore and Ellen Page-starring movie that's coming in the U.S. on October 2.

AceShowbiz - Fans didn't have to wait too long to hear Miley Cyrus' contribution to the "Freeheld" soundtrack. Just a day after she revealed that she'd sing a track for the movie starring Julianne Moore and Ellen Page, she unveiled a preview of the emotional ballad called "Hands of Love" in a trailer debuted on Monday, September 14.

The song was penned by Linda Perry who said in a chat with TIME that she wrote it in her car immediately after watching the movie. "I've never had this happen before," she shared. "The arrangement is there, the lyrics are showing up, I can't get to a piano, there's no instruments, there's no nothing - it's all just floating around inside my head."

Meanwhile, it's Page who came up with idea to have Cyrus record the tune. "She has a really raw, unique, awesome, beautiful voice, and Miley's doing a lot of incredible things for the LGBTQ community," the actress explained. "I just thought it was going to be a perfect fit. She and Linda made something really special. I kept listening to it after I heard it."

Of accepting the offer to be involved in the movie, Cyrus said she saw it as a perfect opportunity to combine her passion for singing and LGBT equality. "People like to learn through entertainment," she said. "It's an interactive way to get people to hear your message by putting it in a song they like to listen to, or a film they want to see."

"Freeheld" centers on Julianne Moore and Ellen Page as real life lesbian couple Laurel Hester and Stacie Andree, respectively, as they fight for the rights to transfer Hester's police pension benefits to Andree after Hester's tragically diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. The film is hitting U.S. theaters on October 2.
